In this note, we try to rescue the value of the H&E stain technique, used in routine practices, despite numerous repeated attempts in the literature to denigrate and ban it. In our opinion, there is no other technique in the vast profusion of human and veterinary medicine practices which provides as much information as quickly and at such low cost as the technique of H&E. To sustain this statement, we cite two examples of thyroid carcinomas, in which the simple recognition of microscopic tissue sections stained with H&E in two different varieties allowed to establish the biological behaviour of the tumours and the prognosis of the patients.1
