The spectrum of diseases of optic neuromyelitis corresponds to a set of rare inflammatory and autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system (CNS), with consequent demyelination of CNS neurons that predominantly affects the spinal cord, optic nerve and brainstem causing respiratory insufficiency in 6.3% of cases.
